Texas Sandman
by Frankie McWhorter
There are as many styles of
fiddling as their are fiddlers. One of the most straightforward is
that of Frankie McWhorter. McWhorter is such a master of his instrument
that he makes it sound so much easier and simple than it is.
In this album of 21 fantastic old-time
fiddle tunes, several with vocal accompaniment, Texas working ranch cowboy
Frankie McWhorter exhibits his many years of experience in western swing
dance bands.
Frankie is an original, and his bow
and finger work convey musical feelings elegantly, as few others can.
He is a walking encyclopedia of well-knowm and obscure fiddle tunes, and
they roll from his fiddle as easily as mountain water rolls through Texas
toward the golf.
When was the last time you heard "Rabbit,
Where's Your Mama?" or "Flop-Eared Mule Schottische?" What about "Jesusita
en Chihuahua?" You've heard it, but you didn't know the name of it
before now. Okay then, do you remember McWhorter's own "Between the
Rivers?" You'll learn them after you get this album, because you'll
play it often.
And, of course, Frankie is backed
up by some of the best in the business including co-producers Lannie Fiel
and Tommy Allsup, Curley Hollingsworth on piano, Jim Benjamin on drums,
Bobby Koefer on steel guitar, Tommy Morrell on dobro, Leon Rausch doing
vocals, and Scott Brown's playing harmony fiddle.
You are gonna love this excellent
collection of great fiddle tunes, all of which make you want to grab your
partner and get out and dance. |
