Classic Country

Patsy Cline found success skirting the fine line of pop and country with a finesse that has yet to be surpassed.  Before she died in a plane crash in 1963 along with other country greats Cowboy Copas Hawkshaw Hawkins, she had pop and country fans screaming for more.  Despite her untimely death, her supreme legacy is the new direction she led country music.  Patsy’s sophisticated, smooth delivery took country music fans by storm, and laid the foundation for what would later be referred to as the "Nashville Sound."  Without a doubt, Pasty Cline is the most imitated female singer in history...and imitation is, after all, the highest form of flattery.
Kitty Wells (born Muriel Deason) was born in Nashville on August 30, 1919.  Her first radio debut came on Nashville’s own WSIX, where she met her future husband, Johnny Wright, of the "Johnny & Jack" Opry duet.  Johnny was responsible for Kitty’s stage name, which was appropriately taken from the folk song "I’m A-Goin’ Marry Kitty Wells."  Well, he did, and Kitty’s career skyrocketed to success after her first hit in 1952.  Kitty’s honky-tonk vibrato made her the first major female country star, and dominated the country charts for well over a decade.  In 1965 Billboard magazine voted her The Top Female Performer in country music from 1952 to 1965.
